From Farm to Farm

Every once in a while Dewayne and I are invited to visit other people's homes.....on occasion, we are actually asked to come back for more coffee.

You say the word "coffee" ....and it's an automatic friendship.  No need to shake hands.....just give me a cup of coffee and that's all the conversation starter I need.

Recently, we took a gander over to a home of some good friends of Dewayne's parents.

They own a farm as well and it was nice to engage in what God has blessed them with.

Ok...lemme answer the question you just asked...."You took a gander??  What's that??"

Well, let me inform you I'm not referring to a male goose.  No.

In a casual sense of the meaning of the word.....we took an informal "look" at something.

I know. People don't talk like that any more.  But, every once in a while.....I still do.

So, if you hear/read something I say/write that you've never heard of ......just be old fashioned for once and pull out the dictionary....not google...the dictionary.

It's ok....you can set aside your fancy technology for about 5 minutes and pull out a REAL book.

Now....moving on.....

We met for lunch and snacked and smacked and a picture of a vintage truck was passed around the table.....the first thing that caught my eye was the color red.

Then, the words "old truck" tickled my ears.   I put the two together and I became very curious.

If you don't know this by now, then you are quickly about to learn that I LOVE vintage red trucks.....I can't explain it.  I just LOVE them.

It has nothing to do with the "red truck" fad that has been out in the home decor for the past few years.....none at all.

This fascination started with the vintage truck simply because when I was about 8 or so, my Dad bought a 1948 Ford truck that he was going to rebuild and fix it up.  He drove it to work everyday and one of my brothers and myself rode in it with him all of the time.   It had no seatbelts and a hole in the floorboard that I was always afraid of falling through when we went down the road.

To top it off.....my favorite color is red...so you put the two together and it's a perfect fit for me.

Anyway, back to the table conversation.......I asked the gentleman to see the photo....and it peeked my anxiety meter all the way up.

I knew we were about to go to their house, I wanted to get my eyes on that red truck and let it meet my camera.

Needless to say, when we arrived and he brought it out ....as it started to rain.....I felt like a kid in a candy shop.

I had to wait for the rain to clear so, he could bring it back out and I could take a few shots of it as best I could.

To top it off.....he has white-wall tires on it!!!!!! Talk about a classy little truck and snazzy wheels!

I've never cared really what "brand" a vintage truck is....as long as it's an antique....and especially if it's red....I'm happy to "gawk".......because that's what I do.

Gawk!...and Gawk......and Gawk!    Sometimes.....obnoxious gawk is best to describe.

Look at that grill!  It's as if it is smiling at me and showing me it's teeth.

I love the headlights......on nearly any vintage vehicle.

Look at that!  Would ya just look at it??!!  I can just see a big, fat, green Christmas tree hanging out the bed of this beauty and going down an old country road...hippity hop....vroom, vroom!

Or on a patriot holiday like today....a big American Flag draped across the tailgate.

There is something about things from eras like this in life that don't change.  You can't change it.  Nostalgia.

Sometimes I honestly get tired of all of the changes taking place around us.  I know that change is always going to happen ....because it must....to an extent. But, there are things/places that I really would like to see stay the same.  If only for a place to remain simple.  To be reminded that it's ok to slow down and breathe.

I sit and look at something like this and my mind goes off into another time when life may still have been hard for a lot of people, but, it still made one find joy in the small things, in the simple things.

Okay....I'll moooooooo-ve on....to greener pastures.

The photo below is about a 2 year old calf named "Blessing".  She is a miracle.  They did not expect her to live .....I believe the story is that she was abandoned after her birth by her mother.  Thus, she is a blessing because she's a reminder of how merciful God is when we take care of what He puts into our hands to love and provide for.

There was a small herd of cattle .....a lot of babies.....yearlings, etc.  Each had their own personality and were just as curious of me as I was of them when they walked up to the salt block during the rain shower.

This is probably my favorite out of all of the "babies".   I'm not sure of the name....but, it should be Sparky in my opinion. I could tell it had some serious snip in it's step and the way it would toss it's little head back and forth like it was saying...."Look at me. I have all the attitude for a pose session that you need Honey!"

The one below seemed shy and bashful.

Got a little "salad" there on your lip dear.

There were two horses.....both around 20 years or so and this is the one that came up to the fence.  It took several tries to grab what I could see in my mind because it wanted to scratch it's neck on the fence the whole time.

Looking at her eye makes me wonder what all she has seen in her lifetime.

I love the colors and the offset of the photo below.  I really enjoyed getting different angles and grabbing the characteristics of these cows.

Here's "Personality Number One" again.   I just treated them like people and looked for different angles and compositions and I feel like I came out with some great shots.

With each photo I can feel their personality shine through.

This was the first photo I took.  I saw this curious glare watching me and I couldn't help myself either.   I glared right back with the camera.  Ha.

Yes, it's always an adventure......being married to a Rogers.

Well, thanks for tagging along and endearing my banter....I hope you were able to get the idea that I love red vintage trucks.

Until next time.....

Happy trails to you,

Over and out

Mrs. Rogers
