Spring has started with a fling around here.
This week I mowed two of the pastures and mowed a few acres worth of yards, trimmed lower branches on some of the trees close to the houses and then hoed the garden, 3 rows of approx. 45 feet. All in one day.
Yep....I ate my wheaties for breakfast and I had a good dose of caffeine to go with them.
Not to mention.....(as I clear my throat).....Bubba was nicely tucked away in the house working.
Now, let me stop there for a moment.......back up...."Bubba was nicely tucked away in the house working".
When I'm working.......I don't stop.....not for anything but a drink of water or a chunk of chocolate...(that's my fuel)....and I keep going...but, usually I've got something else I'm wanting to do and I want to get my current job finished so I can go "play".
But, when I would walk into the house to get that glass of water, Bubba was eating...breakfast bagel and a piece of sausage. I thought nothing of it. I came in about an hour and a half later, he was eating again...nachos. Still didn't think about the time. I came back a third time, and he was eating AGAIN....this time popcorn. I thought "geez, that guy is putting down some grub today". Later, another trip in.....he was eating more nachos.
I'm like..."Dude, you just eat and eat and eat".....ha. So, needless to say.......the next day, he was outside working it off!
This quarantine life is getting a little "weighty for wear" .....if ya know what I mean!
Some days start off with a bang and other days........we get the nice peaceful sounds of the birds.......and then, these two wake up. Talk about a break in the silence!
Bubba and I get our usual greeting as well...the littlest one thinks she's a great dane. I guess with her fierce yap she feels like she's overcoming her "little dog" syndrome.

I walked out to the garden to see what was new. To my delight....we have a few tomatoes already on the vines. I counted 5 to be exact.
There is nothing like a good, home-grown tomato. Nothing. A little salt and pepper and a sliced one of those juicy, red, ripe, plump maters will make ya happy and coming back for more.

I walked over to my two cucumber vines and voilah!!! We have a taker!!!!!! I'll give it another day or two to get good and pick worthy.

We grilled one of these yesterday afternoon.....zucchini. Bubba likes to slice them into small spear sizes, set them in some foil, season with butter, onion powder, garlic powder and a little season mix and grill them. Yum...sure was good with that grilled chicken we had.

More squash is peaking out at me.....more good grilling going to happen this year!!!!!

Here's my 3 rows of 45 feet I hoed this week. The two back rows are the purple hull peas. I can't wait for those.....a pot of peas and sausage is always comfort food here in the south.

Between the "honey-do's" and "momma-do's".....we gonna keep the eating to a minimum around here. hahahahaha.
I guess I really should cut him some slack because he really never stops unless he goes to bed at night.
Linda bought this weed-eater last year and he really does like it.
I'm looking at the helmet in this picture and I'm thinking it would be a great "mask" for quarantine......hahahahahahahaha

I had noticed a lot of color on one of the fruit trees when I was in the garden and later Linda said her peach tree was full. So, I decided to go take a look and sure enough, it is loaded down. As of right now, the squirrels aren't paying them much attention.....I guess because they are hitting all of the bird feeders in the yards and are content.
I think I taste some peach tea in the future!

Well, ok....I'll get started on the rest of what can happen in a day.
The usual sound of the mule yesterday morning meant that Linda was getting everything sprayed for the spring. Ants and weeds.
I'm out painting on my current piece of work in the yard beside our house and I hear a bunch of little grunts and some sounds of frustration going on.
I look over at the shop, where I heard her pull up to, and she is wrestling with a hose on the sprayer. So, I walk over to help. Well, needless to say, we need Bubba. So, she goes off to find him.......who can fix it in about 2 seconds!
So, life goes on...........at least for a little bit.

Maybe......I say, maybe......about 20 minutes later........I hear the tractor crank and pull to the shop. I think, "well, I guess he's going to go find something else to do....maybe move a mountain or something".
No........in about 5 minutes they are all three, (Roy, Linda and Bubba,) huddled together trying to figure out what is wrong with the mule and trying to create a solution to the problem.
Honey.....if there is a solution to a problem in the world.....it starts with these 3. Engineers of cut and dry, to the point, nothing held back .....problem solvers.
I hear a chain rattle and I look over and the mule is chained to the tractor.
I'm thinking to myself...."what in the world now??????!!" "I mean, it was JUST running!"

Bubba to the rescue.

Ya'll see that look??!! That's a Rogers look. Mmmmhmmm....over-confident look. An "I got this and I know how to fix it" look.
That's a "Get out of my way" look....."I'm going to do this my way, on my time" look.
You see, there's not a look that crosses the pathway of that little face right there that I don't know what is about to happen or be said. Mmmmmhmmm.

Them two have their way of communication.
Trust me, sometimes it's a trip to watch and listen. Ha. Like they are on a planet all by themselves.
He's the baby........so, if you know anything about the birth order.........you totally get what I'm saying.

Well, since "bells and whistles" quit on us.....(t happened to be the starter that's gone bad again) I got a "wave" offering as they passed by.
She knew she was going to be in the blog.....so, she decided to make a it a good pose. Ha

Anddddd of course the "golden child" has to follow through as well. Ha.
He hadn't shaved in a couple of days so he has the "scrub brush" going on. He needs a haircut......I told him I was about to get real creative......since there's no hair cut places open.

So, to say the least, Bubba ordered a new starter for the mule.....hopefully, it will arrive in a timely manner. The mule is such a work-horse around here and we use it everyday......for nearly anything.
Later on, we made our way into Tomball, and if the day hadn't been eventful enough......we got stuck in traffic, for an hour......and as usual....Bubba and Linda solve all of the traffic problems the entire hour.
We made it to Tractor Supply....to get wheels for the gates on the farm and Linda gets her pony-tail hung up in the car door when she shut it.
Other news............a couple of days prior to all of this.......Linda was "bunching" the fire. If you don't know what "bunching" is......well, let me just say....you have to live in the country.
Anyway, she had been doing that for about 30 minutes or longer.
Bubba and I were in our house and we heard this noise. Like a little girl that just saw a bug for the first time in her life. It lasted for...........about 5 minutes.
Then, to follow, a lot of high - pitched banter.
In the meantime, I'm too busy painting on my current project to stop and see what in the world is going on and so, Bubba ....the "rescue team", sticks his head out the door.
Linda had already pulled the tractor up to our walkway and was going on and on about something.
On a side note....when she's excited about something..........her voice gets loud and high pitched. So, yeah, that's a good way to describe it. Loud and high-pitched.
So, then, as I'm listening to three separate voices, Bubba, Roy and Linda......I also hear a bunch of banging on my porch. She was helping herself to a hoe and whatever else.
I'm still painting......quietly. I have paint all over my hands and I can't stop what I'm doing to go see what the drama is all about.
About 30 minutes, or so, later, I get a picture on my phone of a mouse that was a "ride-along" on the tractor.
It's amazing how something so small can create such a fuss. But, they sure can............especially when uninvited.

Needless to say, Bubba saved the day.........again.
He needs an award.
He's like a super-hero around here or something.
So, let's take a moment and give him a hand of appreciation.
Okay....that's enough. Can't give him any more confidence.....his hair is already growing so much on his head, you'd think he's trying to fill in a bald spot or something. Ha.
Ok....well, I guess I've probably created quite a stir with this episode.
Till the next time something big happens around here..........over and out.
Happy trails to you.
